India : Michelin has launched the MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 (XMEZ 2), a next-generation truck and bus tyre developed for Indian operating conditions and tested on Indian highways. Positioned as India’s most fuel-efficient tyre in the ‘All Position’ category, the Made-in-India product will be available nationwide from November 1, 2026.
Designed to address the operational requirements of commercial fleet operators, the new tyre combines fuel efficiency, extended tyre life, enhanced robustness and improved wet and dry handling. Michelin said the product is engineered to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), helping fleet owners improve productivity and operating margins.
Up to 13% Fuel Savings and Lower Operating Costs
Fuel accounts for approximately 50% of a fleet’s overall expenditure, making fuel efficiency a key factor in commercial transportation economics.
According to Michelin, the X Multi Energy Z2 delivers up to 6% fuel savings in the 295/80R22.5 tubeless size and up to 13% in the 295/90R20 tubeless size compared with leading competitors. These savings could improve fleet operating margins by up to 3% while reducing CO₂ emissions by up to eight tonnes.
Up to 25% Longer Tyre Life
The new tyre offers up to 25% longer tyre life compared with leading competition, supported by Michelin’s Carbion blend technology. The innovative compound is designed to provide a stronger and more consistent tread, helping extend tyre life and reduce replacement costs and vehicle downtime.
The X Multi Energy Z2 also offers 11% better summit strength compared with leading competition, according to the company, contributing to improved robustness and fleet productivity.
Enhanced Grip, Handling and Safety
For the 295/80R22.5 size, the tyre offers improved wet and dry handling compared with leading competition. Michelin’s patented InfiniCoil+ technology optimises the tyre’s contact patch and enhances stability throughout its lifespan.
The tyre also features up to 5% larger footprint area compared with competing products in the same size, supporting improved grip and traction.
Made in India with Focus on Sustainability
Manufactured at Michelin’s Chennai facility, the X Multi Energy Z2 is made with up to 30% recyclable materials. Michelin said the Chennai plant operates with a zero-carbon footprint and sources nearly 45% of its energy requirements from renewable sources.
The product’s fuel-efficiency features are also intended to help commercial fleet operators reduce fuel consumption and associated emissions, supporting more sustainable mobility.
Michelin Strengthens Commercial Vehicle Portfolio
Commenting on the launch, Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India, said, “India’s commercial vehicle sector is the backbone of the nation’s economy, and fleet owners are increasingly looking beyond the upfront cost of a tyre to its overall value throughout its life.”
He added that the X Multi Energy Z2 combines fuel efficiency, longer tyre life and enhanced robustness to help fleet operators optimise operating costs, improve productivity and strengthen margins.
The tyre will be available from November 1, 2026, across Michelin Tyres & Service stores and approximately 300 Michelin-authorised dealers nationwide.
With the launch, Michelin aims to strengthen its commercial vehicle tyre portfolio in India through locally developed mobility solutions focused on efficiency, durability and fleet performance.
