Ahmedabad : Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, visited Amneal Pharmaceuticals’ corporate office in Ahmedabad on Tuesday and met with senior company leaders to discuss the company’s growth, investments, research and development pipeline and expanding capabilities in India.

The interaction highlighted Amneal Pharmaceuticals’ contribution to India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation ecosystem, including its capabilities across complex generics, injectables, peptides, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), advanced manufacturing and R&D. During the visit, Amneal presented an overview of its global manufacturing capabilities, innovation initiatives, partnerships and role in supporting pharmaceutical supply chains. The company also highlighted its expanded biosimilars capabilities following the acquisition of Kashiv BioSciences.

The acquisition has strengthened Amneal’s biosimilars platform by bringing together Kashiv’s biologics expertise with Amneal’s commercial and manufacturing capabilities. The integrated platform spans research, development, manufacturing and commercialisation, while expanding the company’s biosimilars pipeline.  The discussions also focused on India’s opportunity to further strengthen its biopharmaceutical ecosystem through increased investment in R&D, innovation capital, advanced research infrastructure, industry-academia collaboration and regulatory science.

These priorities are aligned with the Government’s proposed Biopharma SHAKTI programme, which envisages an outlay of ₹10,000 crore over five years to strengthen India’s biopharmaceutical ecosystem.

Dr. Parva Purohit, Senior Vice President and Head R&D, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, said: “India has a strong foundation in pharmaceutical manufacturing and now has an opportunity to add greater depth in biopharmaceutical innovation. At Amneal, we remain committed to building capabilities across manufacturing, R&D, biosimilars and complex medicines.”

Mr Rahul Maitra, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Amneal, said: “We are encouraged by Mr Manoj Joshi’s visit and the productive discussion towards skill development efforts that are underway within the existing government schemes. The pharmaceutical industry in India is growing rapidly, both in terms of R&D as well as manufacturing. Hence, it is important that equal emphasis is laid on industry-academia-government collaborations to develop a trained and industry-ready workforce.”

During the interaction, Amneal leaders and Secretary Manoj Joshi also discussed the company’s investments and growing capabilities across manufacturing, R&D, biosimilars and complex medicines. The conversation covered key enablers for biopharmaceutical growth, including innovation capital, advanced research infrastructure, industry-academia-government collaboration and regulatory science.
