Surat : Step into the heart of Gujarat’s forests as Surat Kitchen at Le Méridien Surat presents वन Bhojan, an immersive culinary celebration inspired by the rich tribal food culture and heritage of Dang. The festival, being held from 21 to 30 August 2026, brings the authentic flavours, indigenous ingredients and traditional culinary wisdom of the Dangi community to Surat.
In collaboration with Dangi Restaurant, Dang, which works to preserve and showcase the region’s tribal culinary traditions through its food, the festival also celebrates the local women who run the restaurant and play an important role in keeping these culinary traditions alive. The initiative further supports local artisans by showcasing their traditional crafts and art, providing guests with a broader experience of Dang’s cultural heritage.
Curated by Chef Priyanshu and traditional culinary experts from Dang, वन Bhojan showcases recipes and cooking techniques passed down through generations. The menu draws inspiration from the region’s seasonal produce, indigenous ingredients and deep connection with nature, creating a distinctive farm-to-table dining experience. Guests can explore a selection of traditional Dangi preparations including Nagli Rotla, Nagli Papad, Dangi Sabzi, Bhujiyu, Bamboo Shoot Curry, Dang Style Dal, Smoked Corn Preparations, Forest Mushroom Dishes, Black Rice Preparations and Seasonal Forest Vegetables.
The meal is complemented by rustic accompaniments such as Garlic & Chilli Chutney, while regional desserts inspired by Mahuda and Custard Apple bring the culinary journey to a close. Beyond the food, वन Bhojan has been designed as an immersive cultural experience. The festival features bamboo and earthen décor, mud pots, millet and ingredient displays, live rustic cooking stations and traditional Dangi-inspired music. Chef interactions and culinary storytelling further offer guests an insight into the traditions and food philosophy of Dang.
The festival celebrates not only the flavours of the region but also its biodiversity, community traditions, local craftsmanship and sustainable food practices. By bringing these elements together under one culinary experience, वन Bhojan provides guests an opportunity to discover the cultural richness of Gujarat’s tribal heartland.
