New Jersey : New Jersey is set to witness a landmark celebration of Gujarati pride and community unity as nearly 2,000 members of the Gujarati-American diaspora gather on Saturday for “Garvi Gujarat, Global New Jersey,” a special community reception in honour of Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.
The event marks a historic first, with two sitting mayors of Gujarati heritage — Hon. Sam Joshi, Mayor of Edison, and Hon. Pulkit Desai, Mayor of Parsippany-Troy Hills — co-hosting the reception.
To be held at the Carteret Performing Arts Center in Carteret, New Jersey, the gathering will highlight the growing civic, cultural and economic influence of the Gujarati-American community in the United States.
More than a community reception, the event represents the remarkable journey of Gujarati Americans who have built successful businesses, institutions and community networks while playing an increasingly prominent role in the civic and political life of New Jersey.
The reception is privately funded by Indian-American community sponsors and is free and open to the public. It will bring together community members, leaders, entrepreneurs and families to celebrate Gujarat’s heritage, values and global contribution.
Adding another historic dimension to the occasion, the entire programme will be broadcast live in primetime on TV9 Gujarati, enabling audiences across Gujarat, India and the global Gujarati diaspora to experience the event.
The programme will feature cultural performances, addresses by community leaders and a keynote address by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.
The gathering is being viewed as a symbolic “homecoming in reverse” — bringing Gujarat closer to the Gujarati community that has made New Jersey its home while maintaining strong cultural and emotional ties with its roots.
The event also reflects the growing connection between Gujarat and its global diaspora, showcasing how Gujarati communities across generations continue to preserve their cultural identity while contributing actively to the societies in which they live.
“Garvi Gujarat, Global New Jersey” is expected to serve as a powerful celebration of heritage, civic participation and community achievement, reinforcing a message of unity and Gujarati pride across continents. From Gujarat to New Jersey, the event represents more than a welcome. It is a celebration of a community’s journey, achievements and enduring connection with its roots.
