First Michelin passenger car tyre manufactured in India offers enhanced safety, longer tyre life, superior comfort and EV-ready performance
Chennai: Michelin, the world’s leading tyre technology company, has announced the launch of the MICHELIN Primacy 5 in India, introducing its latest premium passenger car tyre designed for sedans and SUVs. The launch marks a significant milestone for the company as the Primacy 5 becomes the first Michelin passenger car tyre to be manufactured in India for Indian consumers.
Engineered to meet the evolving mobility needs of Indian motorists, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 combines advanced tread pattern optimisation with next-generation rubber compounds to deliver improved safety, comfort, handling, energy efficiency and durability across internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid and electric vehicles.

He added that the tyre has been developed and tested on vehicles commonly driven in India, benchmarked against leading competitors and independently validated to ensure superior performance across Indian road conditions. “By combining Michelin’s latest global tyre technologies with local manufacturing expertise, the Primacy 5 is uniquely positioned to meet the evolving expectations of Indian motorists for superior safety, longer tyre life, enhanced comfort, energy efficiency and everyday performance,” he said.
Mr. Deshpande further reaffirmed Michelin’s commitment to expanding its retail presence, manufacturing capabilities and service ecosystem in India while supporting the country’s manufacturing ambitions.
Enhanced Safety and Longer Tyre Life
Building on Michelin’s legacy in premium mobility, the Primacy 5 delivers significant improvements in braking performance and longevity.
Compared with leading competitors, the tyre offers:
- Up to 8 metres shorter wet braking distance when new
- Up to 9 metres shorter wet braking distance when worn
- Up to 4 metres shorter dry braking distance
The tyre also delivers an 8% longer lifespan than its predecessor, the MICHELIN Primacy 4ST, supported by Michelin’s proprietary EverGrip and EverTread technologies, which maintain grip and performance throughout the tyre’s lifecycle.
Superior Ride Comfort
The MICHELIN Primacy 5 has also been designed to enhance ride quality through an optimised tread pattern that reduces road noise.
According to Michelin, the tyre delivers a 9% improvement in ride comfort compared to competing premium tyres, offering a quieter and more refined driving experience without compromising durability.
Optimised for Electric Vehicles
Recognising the rapid growth of electric mobility in India, Michelin has developed the Primacy 5 to perform efficiently across EVs, hybrid vehicles and conventional ICE vehicles.
The tyre is engineered to handle the higher torque and additional weight associated with electric vehicles while delivering consistent performance, durability and comfort.
It also offers a 6.5% improvement in energy efficiency over the MICHELIN Primacy 4ST, contributing to improved fuel economy for conventional vehicles and increased driving range for electric vehicles.
Award-Winning Innovation
The MICHELIN Primacy 5 has already received international recognition, winning the prestigious “Tyre of the Year 2025” award at the Tyre Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence, highlighting its technological advancements and overall performance. Beginning August 2026, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 will be available across MICHELIN Tyres & Services outlets and approximately 800 authorised Michelin dealers across India.
