New Delhi: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh felicitated the nine women officers of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force who successfully completed ‘Samudra Pradakshina’, the country’s first-ever all-women Tri-Service circumnavigation sailing expedition aboard the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni.
During an interaction with the officers in New Delhi, the Raksha Mantri lauded the team’s courage, determination and resilience in completing the 314-day voyage, covering nearly 25,500 nautical miles across four oceans. He described the expedition as a shining example of Nari Shakti, Tri-Service jointness and operational synergy that would inspire every Indian.
The officers shared their experiences of overcoming physical and mental challenges during the demanding voyage, stating that their commitment to making the nation proud kept them motivated throughout the mission. Rajnath Singh praised their unwavering dedication, saying their achievement proves that determination and conviction can overcome any challenge.
Calling their accomplishment “incredible”, the Raksha Mantri said the expedition had shattered stereotypes surrounding women in military operations. He noted that the success of ‘Samudra Pradakshina’ demonstrated that leadership, resilience and courage are not defined by gender.
He also highlighted the expedition as a remarkable example of Tri-Service integration, with officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force sailing together under one mission. The voyage further showcased India’s indigenous capabilities, engineering excellence and maritime professionalism during international port calls, strengthening goodwill with friendly nations.
The mission concluded successfully after fulfilling all internationally recognised criteria for circumnavigation, including crossing the Equator twice, the International Date Line and rounding the Three Great Capes. The crew also earned the prestigious Cape Horners distinction after successfully navigating the challenging Drake Passage and Cape Horn.
Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, and senior officers of the three Services were present during the felicitation ceremony.
