Ahmedabad: Saint-Gobain and CEPT University have entered into a strategic partnership to establish a Climate-Resilient Tech Commons Centre (TCC) aimed at accelerating the adoption of sustainable building solutions and promoting research on energy efficiency, climate resilience, and well-being in India’s built environment.
The collaboration combines Saint-Gobain’s expertise in light and sustainable construction with CEPT University’s academic leadership to create a platform that bridges industry and academia. The Tech Commons Centre will support building science research, prototyping, skill development, and industry-led knowledge exchange while providing students with practical exposure to sustainable construction practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Sreedhar N., Senior Vice-President and CEO – Asia Pacific and India Region, Saint-Gobain, said the partnership reflects a shared vision of creating climate-resilient buildings that consume up to 40% less energy, reduce embodied carbon, improve circularity, and provide healthier and more comfortable living spaces.
He added that the collaboration would serve as a living laboratory where architecture students can develop solutions tailored to India’s evolving sustainability requirements.
Prof. Barjor Mehta, President of CEPT University, said universities play a crucial role in generating knowledge that addresses real-world challenges. He noted that the Tech Commons Centre would enable students and researchers to work closely on building performance, sustainability, and innovation.
The centre will feature four specialized hubs:
- Building Science and Climate Resilience
- Urban Intelligence and Digital Twins
- Computational Design and Visualisation
- Communications and Media
The initiative comes at a time when India is focusing on sustainable urban development under the vision of Viksit Bharat, with increasing emphasis on reducing energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and improving building performance.
Saint-Gobain highlighted that its Made-in-India sustainable building solutions enhance thermal comfort, natural daylight, acoustics, indoor air quality, and fire safety while reducing operating costs and supporting the country’s Net Zero ambitions.
The company believes that energy-efficient buildings can improve workplace productivity, educational outcomes, healthcare recovery, and overall quality of life while reducing dependence on imported energy resources.
Saint-Gobain, a global leader in light and sustainable construction, operates in 81 countries, employs over 162,000 people, recorded €46.5 billion in sales in 2025, and has committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.
