Kolkata : Students of La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, have brought laurels to the institution by winning the Bose Beamline Challenge for Schools 2025 and receiving the prestigious Visionary Award, earning an invitation to participate in the CERN Masterclass 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The achievement was driven by an outstanding research paper authored by Raghav Agarwal, Kabir Agarwal, Yuvraj Shah, Varun Bajoria, and Saatvik Gupta under the mentorship of S. M. Banerjee. Their work secured an opportunity for a 12-member student delegation to experience one of the world’s foremost centres for particle physics research.
The delegation also included Krishav Agarwal, Aarav Kapoor, Yunav Popat, Aarash Neville Koyithara, Stavan Jain, and Viraj Saraogi, who participated in the prestigious academic programme.
During the CERN Masterclass, the students explored internationally acclaimed scientific facilities, including the Antimatter Factory, and the ATLAS, ALICE, and LHCb experiments. They attended lectures delivered by leading physicists and analysed real particle physics data, gaining first-hand exposure to cutting-edge scientific research and experimental methodologies.
Beyond CERN, the students also visited the United Nations headquarters, Chamonix, and Mont Blanc, enriching their educational journey through global exposure and cultural experiences.
Expressing pride in the students’ accomplishment, Sydney Francis Menezes, Principal, La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, said: “We are immensely proud of our students for this remarkable achievement. Their success in the Bose Beamline Challenge and the opportunity to participate in the CERN Masterclass 2026 reflect their curiosity, dedication and passion for scientific learning. Experiences such as these give young minds invaluable exposure to the world of advanced research and discovery, and we hope this journey inspires them to continue exploring, questioning and pushing the boundaries of knowledge.”
The accomplishment highlights La Martiniere for Boys’ continued commitment to nurturing scientific excellence and encouraging students to engage with global research platforms beyond the classroom. It also reinforces the school’s focus on fostering innovation, critical thinking, and experiential learning among future scientists and innovators.
