Ahmedabad : The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) to accelerate the adoption of multilingual Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for forensic science, digital investigations, research, education and citizen-centric services.

The collaboration, under the BHASHINI for Seva/Sanchalan initiative, seeks to integrate advanced multilingual AI technologies into forensic education, research, investigation workflows and public service delivery while reinforcing India’s vision of building sovereign AI capabilities.

The partnership will leverage BHASHINI’s AI-powered language ecosystem to enable multilingual access across NFSU’s academic and institutional platforms. Both organisations will jointly develop AI-powered reference applications, voice-enabled forensic solutions, domain-specific language technologies and multilingual investigation workflows. The initiative will also strengthen digital evidence analysis, forensic documentation and institutional capacity building.

As part of the collaboration, the two organisations will work across BHASHINI Udyat, Mitra, AppMitra, Sahyogi and Pravakta platforms. The partnership will support integration of BHASHINI APIs into NFSU’s digital ecosystem, encourage linguistic data contribution through Bhashadaan, enhance AI language models using forensic domain datasets and promote awareness, research and skill development within the forensic community.

During the signing ceremony, the BHASHINI team showcased live demonstrations of its multilingual AI capabilities, including speech-to-text, speech-to-speech translation, text translation, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), transliteration and Voice AI technologies. The demonstrations illustrated how these solutions can facilitate multilingual evidence documentation, transcription of statements, translation of forensic records, digital investigations and citizen assistance services while improving operational efficiency across investigative workflows.

Addressing faculty members, researchers, students and domain experts, Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India BHASHINI Division, outlined the vision of creating India’s Multilingual Forensic Intelligence Ecosystem, where language technologies and Artificial Intelligence converge to enhance forensic education, research, investigations, public services and national capability building.

Under the MoU, DIBD will provide AI-powered language technologies, technical support for API integration, customised language models, implementation assistance, analytical dashboards and capacity-building initiatives. NFSU will facilitate research collaborations, identify domain-specific language requirements, support linguistic data creation and encourage participation from faculty members, researchers and students to strengthen India’s multilingual AI ecosystem.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate research and innovation in forensic science while enabling the development of domain-specific multilingual AI applications that improve accessibility, efficiency and inclusivity across the forensic and investigative ecosystem.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. S.O. Janare, Campus Director, National Forensic Sciences University, said, “Our collaboration with BHASHINI opens a new vista where language can be used as evidence in forensic investigations. The ecosystem developed by BHASHINI, and continuously being strengthened, will be a unique milestone for NFSU and create new possibilities for applying language technologies in forensic science.”

Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India BHASHINI Division, added, “Language should never become a barrier to investigation or access to public services. Through this partnership with NFSU, BHASHINI will bring multilingual AI into the forensic ecosystem, enabling researchers, investigators, institutions and citizens to interact with technology in their preferred language. Together, we are building sovereign AI capabilities that strengthen both digital inclusion and India’s forensic infrastructure.”

The partnership marks a significant step towards building an inclusive, AI-driven forensic ecosystem where multilingual technologies enhance accessibility, improve investigative efficiency and contribute to India’s digital transformation agenda.
