National: As consumers become increasingly conscious about the quality and safety of the food they consume, farm-to-kitchen traceability is emerging as a key factor in building trust and ensuring transparency across the food supply chain.

While shoppers often check product prices and expiry dates before making a purchase, the origin of their food has become equally important. According to a PwC India survey, 84% of consumers are highly concerned about food safety, while more than half also express concerns about the traceability of the food they consume.

Farm-to-kitchen traceability enables food products to be tracked from the farm where they are sourced to the consumer’s kitchen. This end-to-end visibility helps maintain quality standards, improves food safety, enhances accountability, and reduces uncertainties throughout the supply chain.

With rising awareness around healthy eating and responsible sourcing, consumers are increasingly seeking assurance about where their food comes from and how it has been handled before reaching their homes.

Commenting on the growing importance of food traceability, Anushree Dewen, Head of Marketing and Innovation, Godrej Foods, said: “Today, consumers are seeking greater assurance about the food they bring home, and knowing where it comes from plays a key role in building that trust. Farm-to-fork traceability enables end-to-end visibility across the food value chain, offering better control over sourcing, handling, and quality. At Godrej Foods, we follow a farm-to-fork approach to maintain this visibility at every stage, helping us ensure consistent quality standards and deliver products that consumers can trust.”

The farm-to-kitchen approach allows food companies to monitor every stage of production—from sourcing raw materials and processing to packaging, transportation, and final delivery. This level of transparency enables quicker identification of potential issues, improves product quality, and strengthens consumer confidence.

As food safety continues to be a priority for Indian households, traceability is becoming more than just a quality assurance tool—it is evolving into a critical element of responsible food production and informed consumer choice. By adopting farm-to-fork practices, food companies are helping create a safer, more transparent, and sustainable food ecosystem that empowers consumers with greater confidence in the products they purchase every day.
