Gandhinagar: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah will officially launch Bharat Taxi, India’s first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar on Saturday. The initiative marks a significant milestone in extending Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation) to the transport and mobility sector.
Developed on the unique principle of ‘Saarthi Hi Maalik’ (The Driver is the Owner), Bharat Taxi empowers drivers by making them co-owners of the platform instead of merely service providers. The cooperative model enables Saarthis to benefit from ownership, economic empowerment, social security, and long-term financial inclusion.
The launch programme will be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Cabinet Minister Shri Jitubhai Vaghani, senior cooperative leaders, and more than 4,000 Bharat Taxi Saarthis from across Gujarat.
Gujarat Emerges as a Key Growth Hub
Since its soft launch in Gujarat in December 2025, Bharat Taxi has recorded strong and sustained growth across the state. The platform has onboarded more than 1.5 lakh Saarthis and attracted over 7 lakh customers in Gujarat alone, with an average of 3,500 rides being completed daily, reflecting increasing public trust and adoption.
At the national level, Bharat Taxi has registered over 7 lakh Saarthis and served more than 37 lakh customers, positioning itself among the fastest-growing cooperative mobility platforms in India.
Services Across 14 Cities
Bharat Taxi is currently operational in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Dwarka, Somnath, Valsad, Anand, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Nadiad, Junagadh, Mehsana, and Amreli. The organisation plans to expand its footprint across all districts of Gujarat within the coming month, further strengthening last-mile connectivity and accessible mobility services.
Backed by India’s Leading Cooperative Institutions
Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited, a multi-state cooperative registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, and formally established on June 6, 2025.
The initiative is supported by eight premier cooperative institutions of India, namely:

The initiative follows a zero-commission business model, ensuring drivers retain their full earnings while also receiving benefits such as insurance, pension, loans, and access to various government social security schemes.
Customer-Centric and Safe Mobility
For passengers, Bharat Taxi offers surge-free pricing, multiple mobility options including bike, auto, and cab, and enhanced safety measures through collaboration with the Gujarat Police.
Recognising Outstanding Saarthis
During the launch ceremony, top-performing Saarthis will be honoured with share certificates, reinforcing the cooperative ownership model. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between participating institutions will also be exchanged during the event.
Driving Inclusive Growth
By integrating cooperative ownership with digital mobility, Bharat Taxi aims to redefine India’s ride-hailing ecosystem. The platform plans to expand across all states and major cities, establish dedicated support centres nationwide, strengthen social security benefits for drivers, and integrate with India’s digital public infrastructure to build a sustainable, inclusive, and self-reliant mobility ecosystem.
