Sri Lanka Convention Bureau to Host MICE Roadshows in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Chennai to Boost India Tourism Market

Ahmedabad: The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, will host an exclusive series of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) Roadshows and Networking Evenings across Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Chennai during the final week of May 2026, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as one of South Asia’s most accessible and attractive travel destinations.

The first event will take place on May 25 at Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre, followed by Kolkata on May 27 at ITC Sonar and Chennai on May 29 at Pullman Chennai Anna Salai. The roadshows are part of Sri Lanka’s focused tourism promotion strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in the Indian market, which continues to be the country’s largest and fastest-growing source market for leisure, corporate and MICE tourism. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, more than 531,000 Indian tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2025, contributing 22 percent of the island nation’s total tourist arrivals. Sri Lanka also recorded its highest-ever Indian tourist arrivals in the same year, while tourism earnings crossed USD 3.2 billion, reflecting the destination’s growing global appeal.

From pristine beaches and luxury resorts to heritage experiences, wildlife adventures and wellness retreats, Sri Lanka continues to attract Indian travellers seeking short-haul international getaways with premium hospitality and excellent value.The upcoming roadshows will highlight Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings alongside its rapidly expanding MICE infrastructure, world-class hotels, convention facilities and curated group travel experiences. The initiative aims to engage travel agents, tour operators, MICE planners, wedding specialists, corporates, influencers and media professionals from the Indian travel trade ecosystem.

A 24-member delegation comprising leading Sri Lankan hoteliers, destination management companies and tour operators will participate in the multi-city initiative to strengthen tourism partnerships and create new business opportunities with Indian stakeholders. Sri Lanka’s strong connectivity with India remains a major advantage for travellers. SriLankan Airlines currently operates 90 weekly flights connecting Sri Lanka with nine Indian cities, while IndiGo and Air India offer daily services from Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Chennai, ensuring convenient and seamless travel options.

In addition to B2B meetings and networking sessions, the events will include destination presentations, cultural showcases and media interactions to further position Sri Lanka as a vibrant destination for holidays, destination weddings, corporate events and incentive travel.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Dheera Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, said, “Sri Lanka offers Indian travellers a perfect combination of proximity, connectivity, luxury hospitality, cultural richness and memorable experiences. Through these roadshows, we aim to strengthen tourism partnerships and showcase Sri Lanka as a preferred destination for both leisure holidays and MICE travel.”

The roadshows are expected to further boost tourism collaboration between India and Sri Lanka while enhancing destination awareness among Indian travellers and industry stakeholders.
