Ahmedabad :  Dr Dipak Limbachiya, a pioneer in advanced laparoscopic and gynaec-oncology surgery, led a two-day advanced laparoscopic training programme for 15 surgeons from across India. The programme was conducted at the EVA Endoscopic Institute at EVA Women’s Hospital.  Dr Limbachiya has trained over 4,000 national and international doctors in the past decade, positioning himself as a leading authority in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. His high-volume clinical practice, combined with a structured academic framework, offered participants direct exposure to real-world surgical decision-making and advanced operative techniques.

The immersive programme focused on strengthening both core and advanced laparoscopic competencies, including laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, and management of endometriosis with rectal involvement. Participants also gained hands-on insights into tissue handling, use of energy devices, haemostasis, and complication management. Live surgical demonstrations formed a key component of the training, allowing participants to observe procedures performed by Dr Limbachiya with step-by-step real-time explanations of surgical rationale and technique.

Outcome-driven discussions, including case reviews and interactive Q&A sessions, further enhanced learning. By the end of the programme, participants demonstrated improved confidence in independently performing laparoscopic procedures, along with a deeper understanding of surgical ergonomics and workflow optimization.

“By the end of the programme, the trainees had acquired practical, transferable skills that can be immediately applied to enhance patient safety and operative success at their respective centres,” said Dr Limbachiya.

Approximately 10 live surgeries were conducted during the programme, with patients benefiting from access to advanced procedures at nominal costs.

Gynaecological cancers—including cervical, ovarian, and endometrial cancers—constitute a significant portion of India’s cancer burden among women. While advancements in minimally invasive techniques and precision oncology have significantly improved outcomes, access to high-volume, real-time surgical exposure remains limited for many emerging surgeons.

The initiative was supported by Johnson & Johnson MedTech India under its Gynaecological Oncology Learning and Observation Programme (GALOP), which enables surgeons to observe complex procedures in real operating environments.
