BPCL, Tiki Tar and Shell Launch Bharat Tiki Tar Shell to Drive Value-Added Bitumen Solutions

New joint venture targets India’s growing road and infrastructure sector with advanced bitumen, circularity and decarbonisation solutions

Mumbai : Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced the commencement of operations of Bharat Tiki Tar Shell Pvt Ltd, a strategic joint venture between BPCL, Shell Gas B.V. and Tiki Tar Industries, focused on India’s growing road construction and infrastructure sector.

The development follows the Joint Venture and Share Subscription Agreement signed on June 26, 2026. As part of the partnership, Tiki Tar and Shell India Pvt Ltd, established in 2019, has been rebranded as Bharat Tiki Tar Shell Pvt Ltd.

Operating under the tagline “Best Bitumen for Best Roads”, the joint venture will focus on the production, marketing and sale of Value-Added Bitumen (VAB), including Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB), Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB), Natural Rubber Modified Bitumen (NRMB) and bitumen emulsions.

These specialised products are increasingly used in road and infrastructure applications, including national highways and airport runways, owing to their durability, temperature stability and longer lifecycle. The venture also plans to develop solutions supporting decarbonisation and waste circularity in India’s paving industry.

The partnership combines the respective strengths of the three companies. Shell will contribute advanced technology and global innovation capabilities in value-added bitumen and circular solutions. Tiki Tar brings more than six decades of product expertise, knowledge of the Indian market, six manufacturing plants and an established logistics network. BPCL will leverage its extensive pan-India sales and marketing network to support the joint venture’s reach across major infrastructure opportunities.

Commenting on the development, Shri Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), BPCL, said the partnership will help BPCL expand its value-added bitumen portfolio and support the quality requirements of India’s growing road and infrastructure sector. He highlighted the complementary strengths of the partners, including technology, product expertise and BPCL’s nationwide market network.

Shri Raman Ojha, Shell, said the joint venture brings together complementary capabilities built over decades and creates opportunities to advance innovation in bitumen solutions while supporting more durable and resource-efficient road construction.

Ltd., said the joint venture aims to move beyond conventional bitumen supply and become a trusted solution partner for India’s evolving infrastructure needs, with a focus on quality, innovation, reliability, customer-centricity and sustainable growth.

Shri Rajendra Shah, Director, Tiki Tar, highlighted the company’s six manufacturing facilities at Taloja, Halol, Palwal, Mangalore, Vizag and Pithampur, which provide the joint venture with scalable production capacity and established market expertise.

With India continuing to expand its highways, roads, airports and logistics infrastructure, Bharat Tiki Tar Shell aims to strengthen the availability of high-performance, application-specific and value-added bitumen solutions while supporting the sector’s transition towards more durable and resource-efficient infrastructure.
