Ahmedabad: Gujarat Science City is set to celebrate World Ozone Day 2026 on September 16, bringing together around 1,000 students from schools and colleges for a day focused on ozone-layer protection, climate responsibility and environmental awareness.
Organised by the Gujarat Council of Science City, functioning under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, the programme will be held at the Children Activity Centre, Gujarat Science City, Ahmedabad, under the theme “Global Action for Cooler Planet.”
The initiative aims to make environmental science more engaging and accessible for young learners through a combination of scientific learning, interactive activities, films and experiential visits.The day-long programme will commence at 11:00 AM with participant registration, followed by a welcome and introductory session. A popular science lecture on “Action for Ozone Protection & Cooler Planet” will introduce students to the importance of the ozone layer, the challenges affecting it and the collective measures required to protect the environment.
A special film screening on ozone protection will further strengthen the environmental message, while the interactive “Explore Ozone” puzzle game, carrying the message “Save Ozone: Save Life,” will encourage students to learn through participation and problem-solving.
As part of the celebration, students will also visit the various scientific thematic galleries at Gujarat Science City. The gallery visits will provide an experiential learning opportunity, allowing participants to explore scientific concepts, innovations and technological developments beyond the classroom.
The programme has been designed to combine science communication with hands-on and interactive learning, encouraging students to understand the connection between ozone protection, climate responsibility and sustainable environmental practices.
