Bengaluru:  In an innovative effort to promote sunscreen awareness and encourage healthier skincare habits, Deconstruct, a science-backed skincare brand, has launched ‘India’s First SPF Checkpoint’ across key urban locations in the country. The experiential activation aims to help consumers understand the importance of daily sunscreen application and timely reapplication through an engaging, technology-driven experience.

With India witnessing intense summer conditions and prolonged UV exposure, sunscreen usage remains relatively low. Industry insights indicate that nearly 65% of Indians do not apply sunscreen daily, while many regular users fail to use adequate quantities or reapply sunscreen during the day, leaving their skin vulnerable to sun damage.

To address this gap, Deconstruct introduced a unique on-ground activation that transformed sunscreen education into an interactive consumer experience. Visitors were greeted at branded SPF Checkpoints carrying the message, “No SPF, No Entry,” before being directed to a UV camera setup. The technology allowed participants to view sunscreen coverage on their skin in real time, visually highlighting protected and unprotected areas.

Following the assessment, consumers received personalized guidance from trained brand representatives on effective sunscreen application, the significance of reapplication, and the risks associated with prolonged sun exposure. The experience also educated visitors about common concerns such as dark spots, premature ageing, and uneven skin tone while showcasing Deconstruct’s Gel Sunscreen as a lightweight, matte-finish solution designed for everyday use, particularly for oily skin types.

The campaign also incorporated a strong social engagement element. Participants were encouraged to capture selfies with their UV camera results and share them on Instagram Stories while tagging Deconstruct, helping generate organic user-created content and expand awareness beyond the activation venues.

Commenting on the initiative, Malini Adapureddy, Founder and CEO of Deconstruct, said, “In a country like India, where UV exposure remains consistently high throughout the year, sunscreen is often viewed as an occasional product rather than a daily necessity. Through this activation, we wanted to make something invisible feel visible. The UV camera experience allowed consumers to actually see sunscreen coverage on their skin, making education more personal, relatable, and memorable. It reflects Deconstruct’s larger philosophy of simplifying skincare through science-backed solutions that fit seamlessly into everyday life.”

By combining education, technology, and experiential engagement, the SPF Checkpoint activation created a consumer-first platform for meaningful conversations around sun protection. The initiative reinforces Deconstruct’s commitment to making skincare awareness practical, accessible, and rooted in real consumer behaviour.
