Ahmedabad / Mundra: In a major breakthrough against maritime narcotics smuggling, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the ATS Gujarat, successfully seized approximately 115 kilograms of Cocaine during a joint intelligence-based anti-smuggling operation conducted during the intervening night of May 25-26, 2026, near Mundra anchorage.

Acting on specific and actionable intelligence provided by ATS Gujarat, Indian Coast Guard interceptor boats, carrying ATS personnel onboard, launched an extensive search operation in the Mundra anchorage area under extremely challenging night-time conditions.

During the operation, officials observed several suspicious bags being thrown overboard from a container vessel identified as MV Europe, anchored nearly five nautical miles off Mundra coast. Responding swiftly, the joint ICG and ATS team reached the designated location and successfully recovered five bags from the sea in pitch-dark conditions. Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain packets filled with a white powdery substance. Preliminary testing confirmed the substance to be Cocaine.

A total of 115 packets, each weighing approximately one kilogram, were recovered, taking the total seized contraband to around 115 kilograms. As per open-source estimates, the international market value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹1150 crore. The vessel has since been escorted to port, and a detailed joint investigation involving the Indian Coast Guard, ATS Gujarat, and other concerned agencies is currently underway.

The successful operation marks yet another milestone in the coordinated anti-narcotics efforts of the Indian Coast Guard and ATS Gujarat. Over the past five years, the agencies have jointly carried out fifteen successful anti-drug operations, reinforcing India’s maritime security framework and contributing significantly towards the national vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat”.
