Ahmedabad : In a landmark achievement for Gujarat’s sporting ecosystem, 18-year-old Diya Thakore has etched her name in history by winning a Silver Medal in the Uneven Bars event at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) National Championship 2026 held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. With this accomplishment, she becomes the first-ever female gymnast from Gujarat to secure a podium finish at the Senior National level.

Delivering a performance defined by precision and composure, Diya registered an overall score of 10.533. Her routine stood out for its technical finesse, earning a Difficulty (D) score of 2.6 and an exceptional Execution (E) score of 7.933—the highest execution score recorded in the final.

Odisha’s Tannu secured the Gold medal, while Kerala’s Amani Dilshad claimed Bronze in a closely contested final.

Diya’s silver medal is not just a sporting achievement but a story of resilience. In September 2024, she suffered a severe ACL and Meniscus injury that required major surgery and an intensive 18-month rehabilitation process. Her return to elite competition was uncertain, making this podium finish even more remarkable.

“The last year and a half was the toughest period of my life, but my determination to win for Gujarat kept me going. This silver is just the beginning. My ultimate goal is to win Gold at the 2030 Commonwealth Games,” said Diya Thakore.

Training under Coach Harish Chandera at CN Sports Academy in Ahmedabad, Diya’s achievement reflects both individual excellence and the growing strength of gymnastics in the state. The Gujarat Senior Women’s team also delivered a commendable performance, finishing 6th overall at the national championship.

Kaushik Bidiwala, Secretary General of the Gujarat Gymnastics Association, said, “This is a historic milestone. Diya’s success is the result of years of discipline, coaching support, and grassroots development. She has set a benchmark for aspiring gymnasts across Gujarat.”
