New York, May 1, 2026:
In a vibrant celebration of heritage, unity, and diaspora pride, the tenth consecutive Gujarat-Maharashtra Day was commemorated in New York by Gujarati Associations of North America (GANA), in collaboration with the Consulate General of India and Federation of Indian Associations. The landmark event brought together a distinguished gathering of Indian diaspora members, dignitaries, elected officials, and artists for an evening celebrating shared identity and cultural legacy.

The evening commenced with a traditional Ganesh Stuti, setting a reverent tone for a program that seamlessly blended cultural performances, speeches, and recognitions. The celebration highlighted the historic and cultural ties between Gujarat and Maharashtra—two states that continue to play a defining role in India’s economic and cultural landscape.

A major highlight of the evening was a soulful performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Falu Shah, alongside an energetic showcase by Hardik Chauhan, who captivated audiences with his Saurashtra-inspired folk music. The cultural segment was further elevated by a dynamic dance fusion presented by the Dancing Stars troupe, choreographed by Heena Gupte, blending Maharashtrian and Gujarati traditions.

The celebration also featured a unique culinary experience with a fully vegetarian dinner curated by community home chefs, representing authentic Gujarati and Maharashtrian cuisines—an initiative aimed at preserving generational recipes and promoting grassroots culinary talent.

Among the distinguished speakers, Vinay Kwatra emphasized the significance of diaspora-led cultural initiatives in strengthening India-US ties and preserving heritage across generations. He highlighted that Gujarat and Maharashtra together contribute nearly 25% of India’s GDP, underscoring their strategic importance.

Suresh Prabhu delivered a thought-provoking address, drawing parallels between India’s federal structure and traditional joint family systems, while emphasizing the leadership role of Gujarat and Maharashtra in driving India’s economic future.

The event was further graced by prominent personalities including actresses Archana Joglekar and Pooja Jhaveri, along with elected officials such as Hemant Marathe and Pulkit Desai, reflecting the growing influence of the Indian-American community.

GANA President Srujal Parikh reflected on the decade-long journey of the celebration, highlighting community initiatives that bridge cultural and geographic boundaries. Ankur Vaidya and Sreekanth Akkapalli also acknowledged the collaborative spirit that has sustained the event over the years.

The evening concluded with recognitions of philanthropists Saurin Dave and Kenny Desai, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Priti Ray-Patel and Smita Miki Patel.

This milestone celebration reaffirmed the enduring cultural bonds between Gujarat and Maharashtra and showcased the Indian diaspora’s role as a powerful bridge connecting heritage, identity, and global influence.
