Vadodara: In a landmark moment for Gujarat’s cultural heritage, the traditional Manbhatt Akhyan art form witnessed a remarkable revival at the iconic Laxmi Vilas Palace. Renowned Manbhatt artists Kalpesh Vyas and Chetan Vyas, popularly known as the Vyas Brothers, delivered a historic performance that has set a new benchmark in the evolution of Gujarati folk art.
For the first time, the duo introduced the innovative ‘Dual Manbhatt’ concept, featuring two artists performing simultaneously while playing the traditional maan, seamlessly integrating narrative storytelling with Gujarati wedding songs. This unique format added a new dimension to the centuries-old tradition, captivating audiences and earning widespread appreciation.
Organised as part of a wedding celebration, the performance beautifully blended sacred Vedic chants with traditional Gujarati music, creating a spiritually immersive and culturally rich atmosphere. The event featured a grand ensemble of 31 skilled musicians, whose synchronised performance elevated the scale and impact of the presentation.
Rooted in the legacy of legendary poet Premanand Bhatt, the Manbhatt tradition has found renewed relevance through this pioneering effort. The Vyas Brothers’ initiative represents a significant step toward preserving and modernising Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage.
