Flagship 7,000 sq. ft. facility inaugurated in Gujarat; marks the first step in a nationwide wellbeing initiative for India’s trucking community

Gujarat: DP World has announced the launch of its flagship Swasthya Kendra in Gujarat, marking the beginning of a nationwide initiative aimed at creating accessible wellbeing hubs for India’s trucking community. The programme is designed with an initial ambition to positively impact over one million truckers and their families across the country.

India’s trucking sector forms the backbone of the nation’s logistics ecosystem, facilitating over 70% of freight movement and connecting industries, businesses, and households nationwide. Despite this critical role, truckers often face limited access to healthcare, financial security, and welfare support. The Swasthya Kendra initiative seeks to bridge these gaps by establishing integrated service hubs along key freight corridors.

The first Swasthya Kendra, strategically located near the Mundra International Container Terminal, spans 7,000 square feet and is designed as a comprehensive wellbeing facility. It offers healthcare services, preventive screenings, rest and recovery zones, sanitation infrastructure, and assistance in accessing government welfare and social security schemes.

The initiative has been developed in partnership with Plan International India, combining DP World’s logistics expertise with strong community engagement capabilities to deliver sustainable impact. The programme also extends support to truckers’ families, reinforcing a holistic approach to wellbeing.

Speaking at the launch, Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director – Subcontinent, Central Asia, Levant and Egypt, DP World, said: “India’s growth story will be shaped not only by world-class infrastructure, but also by how we support the people who keep trade moving every day. Truckers are the backbone of our supply chains. At DP World, we believe infrastructure development must go hand in hand with social impact. This Swasthya Kendra marks the beginning of a long-term vision to build a nationwide support network that ensures dignity, wellbeing, and opportunity for trucking communities.”

Naveen Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress, added: “Truck drivers operate under demanding conditions, often without adequate access to rest and healthcare. The Swasthya Kendra initiative recognises their contribution and aims to improve their quality of life by providing essential services, information, and support—bringing greater safety, comfort, and dignity to their profession.”

Mohammed Asif, Executive Director of Plan International India, said: “This initiative transforms a rest stop into a comprehensive hub for healthcare, wellbeing, and essential services. It is a significant step toward inclusive development, benefiting truckers, their families, and the broader community. We are proud to collaborate with DP World and local stakeholders to deliver meaningful impact.”

In addition to physical Kendras, DP World has introduced a multilingual, mobile-first application designed to support truckers on the move. Available on the Google Play Store, the app has already seen strong adoption, with nearly 1,000 active users within its first month.

The platform enables truckers to locate nearby healthcare facilities, ATMs, fuel stations, and mobile health units. It also features a wellness tracker that monitors key health indicators and provides real-time fit-to-drive status. A gamified learning module promotes safe driving practices, while integrated digital tools connect users to benefits, rewards, and social security schemes.

Through the Swasthya Kendra programme and its digital ecosystem, DP World aims to build a scalable, long-term model that enhances quality of life, strengthens road safety, and future-proofs India’s logistics backbone.
