Mumbai: Global wearable technology company ŌURA has formally entered the Indian market with the launch of its latest smart wearable, the Oura Ring 4, while simultaneously releasing a detailed report highlighting concerning sleep trends among Indians. Titled “India: The State of Sleep 2026,” the report analyses sleep data of Indian users and indicates that the country ranks among the lowest globally in terms of sleep duration and quality.

According to the findings, Indian users average 6 hours and 28 minutes of sleep per night, significantly below the recommended 7–9 hours for adults. The data suggests that evolving work patterns, late-night schedules, and increasingly connected lifestyles are contributing to reduced sleep duration. The report further notes that Indians record the lowest levels of REM and deep sleep among all users globally. These stages are considered essential for cognitive recovery, emotional regulation, and overall health, raising concerns about long-term well-being.

A notable behavioural trend identified in the report is the prevalence of evening-oriented lifestyles, with nearly 59 per cent of users categorised as “night owls.” Average bedtime in India stands at approximately 12:14 AM, among the latest globally, while wake-up times remain aligned with global averages—resulting in compressed sleep cycles.

Despite shorter nighttime sleep, Indian users appear to compensate through daytime rest. The report records the highest average nap duration globally at 53 minutes, with Mondays emerging as the most common day for naps. Sleep timing consistency between weekdays and weekends, however, was observed as a positive pattern, which may contribute to better circadian rhythm stability.

The India launch of the Oura Ring 4 marks the company’s expansion into a growing wearable technology market. The device tracks multiple health indicators, including sleep patterns, activity levels, and physiological signals, delivering personalised insights via a mobile application. In India, the product will be available from March 18 through offline retail outlets and online platforms. Pricing starts at ₹28,900, with a subscription-based membership model for access to advanced features.

The findings from the report come at a time when sleep health is increasingly being recognised as a critical component of preventive healthcare, particularly in urban populations facing high levels of stress and irregular schedules.
