Ahmedabad : The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate Gujarat organised its first-ever NCC Alumni Meet on Saturday, bringing together former cadets, serving NCC cadets, and senior civil and military officials in the city. The event began with the NCC Unity March, which was flagged off by Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, AVSM, PVSM, VM, AOC-in-C, South Western Air Command, along the scenic Sabarmati Riverfront. More than 800 participants, including NCC alumni, cadets, and dignitaries, took part in the march.

Addressing the gathering, Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, an NCC alumnus himself, highlighted the organisation’s role in nation building and shared how his NCC training shaped his discipline, leadership, and professional journey. Along the riverfront and near the iconic Atal Bridge, NCC cadets set up interactive kiosks showcasing various NCC activities such as adventure training, community service, social awareness programmes, and leadership development. The kiosks attracted citizens and visitors, offering a closer look at the NCC’s multifaceted role in youth development.
Later in the day, a felicitation ceremony was held at Law Garden, where NCC alumni shared their experiences and were honoured for their contributions. The event was attended by Justice Alpesh Y. Kogje of the Gujarat High Court and Lt Gen Asit Mistry, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd)—both distinguished alumni of Gujarat NCC.

Speaking to the media, Major General Bimal Monga, SM, VSM, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Gujarat, said that around 85,000 cadets from all 34 districts of Gujarat, including border and coastal areas, as well as the Union Territories of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, are trained by NCC every year. He added that this number is expected to rise to 1.15 lakh cadets over the next six years.
He also pointed out that Gujarat currently has over one million NCC alumni, reflecting the organisation’s wide social impact. Reaffirming NCC’s mission, he said the organisation remains committed to nurturing discipline, unity, camaraderie, and leadership among youth, with the aim of creating responsible citizens for a Sashakt and Viksit Bharat.
