Ahmedabad : Ahmedabad marked a significant moment in India’s cycling journey with the unveiling of the heritage-inspired Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 Trophy, as the city became the fourth stop on the nationwide Trophy Tour ahead of India’s first-ever **Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) 2.2 classified international road cycling race.

The unveiling in Ahmedabad took place in the presence of Shri Pinaki Bysack, Race Technical Director, Bajaj Pune Grand Tour; Shri Devendra Singh Solanki, President, Gujarat Cycling Association; Dr. Bharat Patel, Secretary, Gujarat Cycling Association; and Dr. Bhairavi Joshi, Director & CEO, BYCS India Foundation.

Organised by the Pune District Administration with the support of the Government of Maharashtra, the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 is India’s premier international cycling event and the country’s first UCI-recognised Pro-stage elite road race for men. The race will bring professional cyclists from across the globe to compete on Indian roads, positioning India firmly on the international professional cycling calendar.

The Ahmedabad leg of the Trophy Tour underscored the city’s strong sporting ecosystem and its growing contribution to endurance sports and organised cycling. With increasing participation in competitive and community cycling, Ahmedabad’s inclusion reflects its relevance in shaping the future of Indian sport.

A Trophy Rooted in Heritage and Craft

The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour Trophy has been handcrafted by Pune’s renowned Tambat Aali coppersmith community. Drawing inspiration from Maharashtra’s rich history, the design symbolises eight historic forts along the race route and pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Forged entirely in copper, the trophy stands 480 mm tall and bears the visible marks of countless hammer strikes—each reflecting discipline, endurance, and resilience. Its eight-fold structure and eight-faced mudra quietly echo Pune’s heritage, while the swirling inner cavity mirrors the form of a velodrome, symbolising the rhythm, repetition, and mental fortitude that define professional cycling.

As the Trophy Tour continues its journey across key Indian cities, it is generating nationwide enthusiasm among cyclists, administrators, and sports enthusiasts, building momentum ahead of the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026—set to be a landmark moment in India’s professional cycling history.
