Vadodara: Rheumatology Association of Gujarat, in collaboration with the Association of Physicians of Vadodara and Tricolour Hospitals, hosted an academic meeting focused on rheumatological disorders for practicing physicians and trainee doctors. Dr Himanshu Pathak, a consultant rheumatologist in Vadodara and the organizing secretary of the event, shared that experts from Gujarat and other parts of India delivered informative lectures. Over 75 doctors attended the meeting, which significantly contributed to enhancing their knowledge in the diagnosis and management of rheumatological diseases.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak informed that rheumatology is a branch of medicine that deals with inflammatory and autoimmune diseases that can affect joints and major body systems at any age. These conditions often impact individuals during their most productive years, affecting physical, mental, and financial well-being. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment by a rheumatologist are essential to prevent long-term damage.
Dr. Namisha Patel, Senior Rheumatologist of Vadodara, informed that the management of rheumatological conditions is based on symptoms and disease stage, ranging from monitoring to advanced therapies such as biologics. With appropriate medications and rheumatologists’ guidance, rheumatological conditions have very positive patient satisfaction results.
Dr. Reena Sharma, Senior Rheumatologist from Ahmedabad, who is also the president of the Rheumatology Association Gujarat, said that although medications are essential for effective control of disease, lifestyle measures like exercise, weight control, a healthy diet, stress reduction, and smoking and tobacco cessation significantly improve outcomes. With timely care and proper guidance, most patients can lead healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives.
