New Delhi: TOTO GALLERY・MA, a cultural space dedicated to architecture and design established by TOTO LTD. in Japan, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Since its inception in Tokyo in 1985, the gallery has united some of the globe’s most esteemed architects alongside emerging talents, fostering a platform where ideas, creativity, and cultural viewpoints converge.
Over the past forty years, the gallery has proudly hosted more than 179 exhibitions and 313 lectures, attracting over 1.5 million visitors. It remains a vibrant space for discovery and education—where architecture transcends mere profession to become a means of connecting with society, the environment, and our shared future.
In celebration of the gallery’s 40th anniversary, we are thrilled to bring this spirit to India. Our showroom in Delhi already acts as a center for design dialogue, and we aim to enhance this with curated experiences and stronger connections within the architecture and design community. As TOTO expands its footprint in India, the gallery’s design-led philosophy becomes even more significant. With Indian architects actively contributing to a future of architecture that is sustainable, inclusive, and contextually relevant, there is immense potential for meaningful collaboration between our two nations in this field. Our showroom library will feature titles by our Special Advisor, Ar. Tadao Ando, making this work available to all visitors as part of our ongoing initiative to promote cross-cultural design discussions between Japan and India.
In celebration of this milestone, the gallery will present a series of exhibitions in the coming months. Highlights include a special exhibition commemorating 100 years since the birth of Kazuo Shinohara and a showcase featuring the acclaimed South Asian architect Marina Tabassum. Each exhibition aims to provide an immersive experience that vividly captures the architect’s concepts and values.
Over the years, TOTO GALLERY・MA has transformed into a venue where design and dialogue converge. Since 1995, in partnership with TOTO Publishing, the gallery has played a pivotal role in launching 405 titles and promoting over 3.06 million copies across 31 countries and regions. This effort has nurtured a direct exchange of ideas among architects from around the globe.
