New Delhi/Lucknow: Emphasising that national security is a shared responsibility, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that safeguarding the nation is not solely the duty of the armed forces but requires active participation from citizens through unity, discipline, and awareness.

Addressing a public gathering in Lucknow, Singh underlined the importance of responsible civic behaviour amid evolving global uncertainties, urging citizens to abide by the law, reject misinformation, and prioritise national interest over individual considerations.

Highlighting the growing threat of misinformation, he described information as a powerful tool capable of either strengthening or destabilising society. He called upon the media to act responsibly, ensuring accurate dissemination of information and avoiding sensationalism, particularly on matters concerning national security.

On the defence front, Singh reiterated the government’s focus on strengthening capabilities while advancing self-reliance. India’s defence production reached ₹1.51 lakh crore in FY25, while exports surged 62.66% to ₹38,424 crore in FY26, with a target of ₹50,000 crore by 2029–30.

He noted that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 requires not just infrastructure growth but also a collective national ethos rooted in responsibility and cohesion.
