Gandhinagar: NIFT Gandhinagar presented a powerful confluence of creativity and compassion through a thoughtfully curated Fashion Show Competition as part of its annual fest, Spectrum 2026. The event stood out not only for its design excellence but for its strong emphasis on inclusivity and socially responsible fashion.

Day 3 of the festival concluded with an engaging showcase of student-led collections, featuring participation from leading institutions such as Gujarat University, Anant University, GLS University, and Silver Oak University. Each team presented thematic collections including UTKARSH, VIRASAT, VASTRA VARASO, DESIFY, and NAQSHNAMA: Karwaan-e-Ajrak, reflecting a seamless integration of India’s rich textile traditions with contemporary design approaches.

The highlight of the evening was an emotionally resonant inclusivity segment — a special ramp walk featuring children from NGOs as showstoppers. Led by Prof. (Dr.) Sameer Sood, Director of NIFT Gandhinagar, this segment was inspired by the Spectrum Inclusivity Fashion Walk and included participation from Vishesh Education Center for Specially Challenged Children.

More than a symbolic gesture, the initiative underscored the transformative potential of fashion as a tool for empowerment. Children with intellectual and physical disabilities walked the ramp alongside designers, mentors, and caregivers, fostering an environment of dignity, confidence, and celebration of individuality. The garments were thoughtfully designed with adaptive features, prioritising comfort, functionality, and style—demonstrating how design innovation can meaningfully address accessibility.

The audience, comprising industry professionals, academicians, and well-wishers, responded with heartfelt appreciation, recognising the initiative as a progressive step toward a more inclusive fashion ecosystem. Designers collaborated closely with therapists and support teams to create apparel that not only met functional needs but also enhanced self-expression and confidence among participants.

Beyond the inclusivity segment, the showcase reflected strong storytelling, craftsmanship, and cultural relevance. Collections explored themes of heritage, identity, and sustainability through innovative use of textiles, textures, and silhouettes. Entries were evaluated by an eminent jury on parameters including creativity, garment construction, styling, choreography, and overall presentation.

The event reinforced NIFT Gandhinagar’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent while promoting design as a medium for social change. By integrating inclusivity into mainstream fashion narratives, the institute continues to set a benchmark for responsible and impactful design education. Spectrum 2026, through this initiative, reaffirmed that fashion extends beyond aesthetics—it can be a powerful platform for representation, accessibility, and meaningful societal transformation
