Kolkata : The Kidney Care Society, in association with Nephrocare India, one of India’s leading kidney care institutions, observed World Kidney Day 2026 by organizing a Scientific Symposium to promote awareness on kidney health and prevention of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The event was held at The Stadel, Kolkata, bringing together leading nephrologists, healthcare professionals, and medical experts to discuss advances in kidney care and the importance of early diagnosis.

Aligned with the global theme Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,” the symposium focused on spreading awareness among both the public and healthcare community about preventive kidney care, early screening, and holistic disease management.

The program commenced with an inaugural ceremony and traditional lamp lighting, followed by the inaugural address delivered by renowned nephrologist Dr. Pratim Sengupta. The event was also graced by Chief Guest Prof. Dilip Baidya, who highlighted the increasing prevalence of kidney disease and emphasized the need for awareness, preventive care, and timely medical intervention.

The scientific sessions featured insightful presentations by eminent specialists including Dr. Pratim Sengupta, Dr. Tathagata Mukherjee, Dr. Sourav Sadhukhan, Dr. Prabhav Bansali, and Mr. Subhabrata Bhattacharjee. The speakers addressed key topics such as managing creatinine levels, delaying dialysis, redefining CKD care, and adopting lifestyle modifications to improve kidney health.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Pratim Sengupta, Nephrologist and Founder & Director of Nephrocare India, said: Kidney disease is often referred to as a silent killer because symptoms appear only at advanced stages. Early diagnosis and preventive care can significantly reduce the burden of chronic kidney disease. Regular kidney function tests such as serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and glomerular filtration rate help in detecting kidney problems early and ensuring timely treatment.”
