New Delhi: InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the parent of IndiGo, on Monday announced that its Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers will step down from the role with immediate effect. The airline’s board thanked Elbers for his contribution and service to the organisation during his tenure.

Following his exit, Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, will temporarily oversee the airline’s operations until the company appoints a new chief executive. The airline said a new leader is expected to be announced shortly.

“Rahul returns to assume management of the affairs of the airline to strengthen the company’s culture, reinforce operational excellence and deepen its commitment to delivering exceptional service of care, reliability and professionalism to its customers,” said Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of the Board.

Bhatia said he feels a deep sense of commitment towards the airline’s customers, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders, having founded and nurtured IndiGo for over two decades. He added that the airline will continue to focus on strengthening its culture, service excellence and stakeholder trust while sharpening its strategic focus on serving India with a professionally managed and globally respected airline.
