Kolkata : The team behind the upcoming folklore thriller “Charak: Fair of Faith” visited Kolkata as part of its nationwide promotional tour ahead of the film’s theatrical release on March 6, 2026. The visit generated considerable interest among audiences and the media, reflecting the film’s cultural connection with eastern India’s folklore traditions.
Backed by filmmaker Sudipto Sen, known for directing the widely discussed film The Kerala Story, the project has already attracted attention following the release of its intense trailer. Directed by Shieladitya Moulik, the film explores the folklore associated with the traditional Charak Festival, examining themes of blind faith, occult practices, and the darker dimensions of ritualistic beliefs.
A press conference held in Kolkata was attended by Sudipto Sen (Producer), Subrat Dutta (Actor), and Bishakh Jyoti (Music Director). The team spoke about the film’s concept, the research behind its storyline, and the challenges of translating folklore into a cinematic narrative.
However, the promotional visit also witnessed controversy as protesters in parts of the city blackened posters of the film. Demonstrators objected to the depiction of certain practices associated with the Charak festival, alleging that the film portrays their cultural tradition negatively and misrepresents the spirit of the celebration, thereby hurting community sentiments.
Despite the protest, the promotional event continued as planned. During their Kolkata visit, the team interacted with local media, digital influencers, and film enthusiasts, discussing the film’s thematic depth and the role of folklore in shaping its narrative.
The film features an ensemble cast including Anjali Patil, Sahidur Rahaman, Subrat Dutta, Shashi Bhushan, Nalneesh Neel, Shankhadeep, and Shounak Shyamal.
“Charak: Fair of Faith” is presented by PEN Studios, led by Dr. Jayantilal Gada. The film is produced by Dhaval Jayantilal Gada and Sipping Tea Cinemas, in association with Sudipto Sen Productions, with Rajesh Bhatt serving as Associate Producer.
With the Kolkata promotions drawing attention and sparking debate, the film continues to build momentum ahead of its nationwide theatrical release on March 6, 2026.
