Ahmedabad: Anandana – The Coca-Cola India Foundation, in collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC), strengthened its commitment to sustainable waste management by implementing the Maidaan Saaf  Campaign during the India vs Netherlands clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad.

As part of the initiative, waste generated at the Maidaan was systematically collected and meticulously segregated to ensure that each category entered the appropriate processing stream for recycling, reuse, or responsible disposal. The campaign was carefully designed to operate smoothly alongside the match-day experience, allowing spectators to enjoy the game uninterrupted while maintaining a clean and organized venue.

During the national anthem ceremony before the start of the match, national flags along with ICC unity flags made from recycled plastic were unfurled, adding a symbolic environmental touch to the occasion. The gesture underscored the tournament’s broader sustainability commitment, reflecting how eco-conscious practices were woven into every aspect of the event — from on-ground waste management to the use of recycled materials in ceremonial elements.

The collected waste comprised food leftovers, cold drink cups, water bottles, snack wrappers, paper plates, paper cups, plastics, polythene, and other commonly generated materials that require careful segregation and handling. Clearly marked segregation points, supported by trained volunteers and local waste management teams, enabled efficient sorting at the source.

Through this initiative, the Maidaan Saaf Campaign once again highlighted how large-scale sporting events can successfully combine environmental responsibility with world-class entertainment, reinforcing the importance of clean venues and conscious waste management practices.
