Mumbai : Malaysia Airlines has announced a strategic partnership with Mumbai Indians (MI), India’s most successful and widely followed cricket franchise, as its Associate Sponsor and Official Global Airline Partner. The collaboration aligns with the airline’s broader objective to accelerate sports-led brand positioning and commercial expansion across key international markets, particularly India.
Marking the occasion, Malaysia Airlines launched the partnership at Jio World Gardens, Mumbai, coinciding with Makar Sankranti. The release of 100 traditional Malaysian Wau Bulan kites symbolised the cultural convergence of India and Malaysia through travel and sport. Mumbai Indians Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene and senior club representatives were present at the event.
With Mumbai Indians boasting a global fan base of over 55 million, the partnership offers Malaysia Airlines a powerful platform to enhance brand visibility, deepen customer engagement, and reinforce its presence in one of its fastest-growing markets.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, stated, “India is a key pillar of our international network, with 80 weekly flights connecting 10 major Indian cities. This partnership is a strategic investment that allows us to engage a highly passionate audience while strengthening tourism and trade connectivity between India and Malaysia. By blending world-class cricket with our signature Malaysian Hospitality, we aim to create meaningful experiences that extend beyond travel.”
A Mumbai Indians spokesperson added, “We are delighted to partner with Malaysia Airlines, a brand that mirrors our values of excellence and global outreach. This collaboration will bring unique travel experiences to our fans while celebrating the shared passion for sport and culture.”
As part of the partnership, Malaysia Airlines will roll out multiple fan-centric activations, including on-ground engagements, co-branded experiences, exclusive merchandise, and player-led appearances. The airline will also continue promoting its Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme, enabling eligible transit passengers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to explore an additional Malaysian destination at no extra airfare cost (excluding taxes).
The initiative supports Visit Malaysia 2026, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a premier travel destination while strengthening air connectivity across India and Southeast Asia. For bookings and more details, customers can visit Malaysia Airlines’ official website or download the mobile app. Travellers are also encouraged to join the Enrich loyalty programme to earn rewards and enjoy exclusive benefits.
