Uttarayan Snacking Surge in Ahmedabad: Frozen Bites Fuel Rooftop Festivities

Ahmedabad : Uttarayan transforms Ahmedabad rooftops into buzzing kite arenas, “Kai Po Che” echoing in the background, as families share Undhiyu, Jalebi, til laddoo, chikki, and mamra laddoo. This harvest festival, marking the sun’s northward journey, celebrates abundance through food, community, and playful kite battles, accompanied by endless cups of masala chai.

Amid this festive hum, snacking habits are evolving. STTEM 2.0 by Godrej Yummiez finds that 45% of households increase their frozen snack use during Uttarayan, while 62% treat them as essential party-time bites. Indian-inspired flavours lead the pack, with 78% opting for khakhra masala or thepla-inspired frozen snacks, and 85% appreciating their quick, hassle-free hunger fix—perfect for keeping up with kite-stringing and rooftop chatter.

“Uttarayan today is about bursts of activity—kite duels, music, friends climbing up rooftops. Snacks bridge those moments, tasting like home but ready in minutes,” says a festival enthusiast. Indeed, it’s these convenient, flavourful bites that keep conversations and celebrations flowing, capturing the true spirit of the festival.
