Ahmedabad : In a notable moment for Gujarat’s classical arts community, 13-year-old Bharatanatyam dancer Janki Aniruddhakumar Dave of Ahmedabad has been conferred second position in the Junior Category at the Gujarat State Kala Mahakumbh 2025, held in Surat on January 2, 2026.
A disciple of eminent Bharatanatyam guru Krinlaben Kothari, Janki presented the classical composition “Varnam”, a demanding centrepiece of the Bharatanatyam repertoire. Her performance was commended for its rhythmic precision, emotive depth, and faithful adherence to the traditional grammar of the form.
Janki’s journey to the state stage reflects sustained dedication and structured training. She previously secured first position at the Sanand Taluka and Ahmedabad District levels, followed by second position at the Zone-Level competition held in Bhachau, thereby qualifying for the state finals. Beyond competitive platforms, she has consistently demonstrated artistic maturity at leading cultural events. At the Somnath Mahotsav, she received second place in the solo category and first place in the group category, while at the Samved Kala Mahotsav in Vadodara, she was awarded first position.

Notably, Janki completed her Arangetram in January last year, marking a significant milestone in her classical training. She is currently pursuing Visharad-level advanced studies in Bharatanatyam, continuing to deepen her engagement with the art form through rigorous practice and scholarly discipline.
Her achievement stands not merely as a competitive success, but as a reflection of the enduring relevance of India’s classical dance traditions among the younger generation. Janki Dave’s progress has brought pride to her family, mentor, and the wider cultural fraternity, and signals a promising continuation of Bharatanatyam’s living legacy.
