Ahmedabad : Marking the beginning of the new year with reflection and purpose, a group of citizens will set out on a symbolic walk along the historic Dandi Path, starting from Sabarmati Ashram at 6:30 am on 3 January and moving steadily towards Dandi. The walk follows the original route of the Dandi March, undertaken at a slow, mindful pace to truly experience the spirit of the journey.

The initiative is rooted in the belief that history must be lived, not merely remembered. By walking the same path taken by Mahatma Gandhi and his companions, participants aim to reconnect with the values of moral courage, discipline, and clarity of purpose that defined the original march.

Organisers describe the walk as a reminder of the strength of quiet determination. Gandhiji’s message—that meaningful change can be achieved through perseverance and inner resolve rather than force—forms the philosophical backbone of the journey. Walking together, day after day, is seen as the most authentic way to honour that legacy.

Beyond its historical significance, the walk also carries a strong message on purposeful fitness. Covering approximately 25–30 kilometres daily, participants seek to demonstrate that age is no barrier to physical activity or commitment to a larger cause.

The Dandi Walk also offers a return to simplicity. With its focus on steady steps, shared meals, conversation, and silence, the journey provides a rare opportunity to slow down and reconnect in an increasingly fast-paced world. An important aim of the initiative is to inspire younger generations. By witnessing seniors walking with dignity and intent, organisers hope to reinforce the idea that patriotism, fitness, and civic responsibility do not retire with age.

As in 1930, companionship remains central to the walk. People from different backgrounds come together with a shared direction, building bonds that go far beyond formal meetings or institutions. The organisers emphasise that this announcement is intended to inform and invite. Those who have the time or inclination are welcome to join the walk at any stage and experience the energy and meaning of the historic Dandi Path.
