In line with its dedication to community growth, Sembcorp, a prominent energy company, has introduced a transformative educational initiative designed to empower students in underserved regions. Rooted in a needs assessment carried out in the communities near its project sites, this initiative seeks to enhance learning outcomes and create new opportunities for students by providing access to quality education.

In a remarkable advancement for rural education, Sembcorp, in partnership with MASTER Interactive Sciences, has established fully equipped STEM labs in ten government schools across the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Aimed at students in Classes 5 to 10, this initiative seeks to ignite scientific curiosity and establish robust learning foundations through experiential, hands-on education. Each lab is equipped with more than 80 interactive models designed to clarify fundamental science and math concepts, making them more relatable and enjoyable. “The STEM lab at our school has made a big difference. It has created a lively learning environment where students can try out experiments and enjoy learning science,” shared a teacher from one of the participating schools. “It’s making a real impact beyond the classroom too.”

This initiative complements Sembcorp’s broader education-focused efforts, including the solar electrification of six schools in Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh carried out earlier this year. The project brought reliable electricity to classrooms, supporting uninterrupted academic activities and benefiting 2,500 students across various rural schools.

“Now that we have a STEM lab, we feel more confident about learning science. It helps us understand tough topics more easily and makes learning fun,” said a student from one of the schools.

By integrating practical learning tools with traditional classroom teaching, the STEM initiative has already impacted more than 3,000 students, equipping them with the skills and confidence to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Together, Sembcorp’s STEM and solar electrification programs have positively touched the lives of more than 5,500 students, contributing to a stronger educational foundation across various regions.

This effort marks a significant step in bridging the urban-rural education divide and preparing young learners for a knowledge-driven future.
